A 600 degree fuser will burn your fingerprints right off.

A 9600 RPM 7" grinder will take a chunk out of your leg, but also cauterize
the wound, so it won't really bleed.

Kneeling on a 1500 degree glowing red disc of steel will not only leave a
mark, and sting a little. You will have a scar to show your great
grandkids.

If you're on a 12' ladder, cutting a hook off with a 1/8" grinding disc on
a 4" 7200 RPM grinder (because the guy you work for said to use it, even
though the Metabo cutting saw is the far better choice), if might fly out
of your hand, if you're using the other hand to keep your balance.

It will probably only crack you in the teeth, busting both of your lips,
and leave a big gash down the front of your face shield, instead of really
messing up your face. But at least you won't fall.

Which leads to the conclusion that they should rather send grinder, fusers
and ladders to Iraq, than people.

GONG!
having done this, only on one of my fingers with a small angle grinder, i
can say definitively that it will bleed like a stuck pig. ground right
down to the white knuckle bone. in fact, it will bleed so much that one of
the indiginous workers at the plant you are in will run to get the UAW shop
steward, who will squeal in fright at the puddle of blood on the floor 10
feet under you. the shop steward for this 1200 worker per shift plant will
then say "doesnt that hurt?!? shouldnt you get that looked at?!?" to
which you will simply reply "sorry, i really dont have time to bleed." the
shop steward will then force you, a contractor, to go see the nurse (male),
who dresses the wound, puts a condom over your finger, and tapes it up. you
will then return to your task, wary of any who might get close enough to
see whats covering your finger.

letting the exhaust section of a chainsaw 'rest' on your inner thigh will
do the same thing.

Where I used to work, the foreman would have run up to ask: "do you think you
can make it to the end of the shift before you get that looked at?".

I guess our agendas were different.

um, yes. shop stewards and foremen are ~usually~ following different
agendas. thats why shop stewards exist.

I remember way back in the days, I used to rock a weedeater (pre-Usenet,
pre-FIDOnet), if you can remember that far back). I would regularly burn
my burn.

actually, im pretty sure the next chunk out of my body will go to either a
circular saw or a router. its their turn, unfortunately.

the rate of self damage plummeted when i quit doing industrial control
contractor work in manufacturing plants. it used to be that i didnt
consider it a good day at work till i was bleeding in two or three places
and had been electrically shocked at least once or twice. im older, and
just a teensie bit wiser: there will be no more talking to my customer next
to the machine im about to rape live electrically, saying "just a second",
turning around to projectile puke in a scrap bin due to last nights
partying, then turning back to finish my conversation.
